My wife knows that if I am out of sight at a Scottish Highland Game, then I can usually be found photographing the lassies at the dancing tent. After all, how long can you watch huge men throwing around telephone poles (cabers) and 56 pound weights before you realize that those lassies are a lot better looking (answer in milliseconds please). At Richmond, the dancers were under an open tent rather than out on the field. It was probably a better idea, given that they wouldn't have to bake under the noon time sun, and the platform remained dry with the threat of rain. But in order to photograph them, I knew I was going to need supplemental light. I used a Nikon SB-25 speedlight on top of my N90 with an 80-200 f2.8 AFD zoom Nikkor to get these shots. I was back about 30 feet from the stage so that I wouldn't be too distracting to the dancers or get in any of the viewers or judges ways.
