Why Were the MacPhersons Late
for the Battle of Culloden?

Part of my Scottish Highland Games series.

Culloden Reenactment - July 1998.

(Note the empty half gallon of Old Cluny whisky on the table.)

When Bonnie Prince Charlie and his army met face-to-face with the English on the battlefield of Culloden in 1746, he was counting on reinforcement from the MacPherson Highlanders. But the MacPhersons arrived too late for the battle, and Charlie's army lost. After extensive research into the cause of the MacPherson delay, it has been discovered that they were asleep. That tradition continues today!
