There are so many good pages of images of the Grand Canyon out there that it is hardly worth adding another. But lots of friends have enjoyed these three images, so I figured I'd post them. They were taken from the same location and within about three minutes time. We had spent the day at the Grand Canyon during a September business trip to Arizona. Arriving at about 10 AM, we experienced a virtual spectrum of weather during the day, ranging from cloudy and cool, to sunny and hot, to showers, to hail, to a little snow, and finally to spectacular light and rainbows. So the lesson of photographing at the Grand Canyon is be prepared for anything, don't be forced out by the cold or the heat or the sun or the rain. It's bound to change, and the change brings spectacular vistas.
We had only time to visit the South Rim of the Canyon, and at the end of the day we had made our way to the eastern part of the South Rim, so we decided to hop a bus to the west. As I stood at the lookout and setup my tripod, the weather took a turn for the worse. Dark clouds arrived, and it started to rain and hail. I was trying to keep my camera dry, when all of a sudden the rain stopped and the warm colors of the afternoon sun lit up the West Rim and produced this rainbow. I hurried to the lookout, reset my tripod and fired away. These were the three best images. A whole day of shooting and within three minutes, the best images of the day.

These images were taken with a Nikon N8008s camera and either a 28 mm f2.8 AF Nikkor lens or a 105 mm f2.5 MF Nikkor lens, all on Fuji Velvia. The images were transfered to Kodak PhotoCD and opened with Adobe Photoshop 4. Minor tweeks of the Levels were made, as well as the application of the Unsharp mask Filter.
