Cecilia Bartoli & Other Opera Links
- Cecilia Bartoli's "Official
Web Site" - not up yet, but you can sign up for notification.
I have no idea what is taking them so long!
- Cecilia Bartoli
Fanweb - by Gary Stephens, one of the first Bartoli sites.
Very complete, with images, sounds, discography, and discussion groups.
- Cecilia
Bartoli Fan Site - by Carsten Langlo of Denmark, a great
site with lots of photos and a particularly nice background image of Cecilia.
- Cecilia
Bartoli Web Collage - I just don't get this site, one photo
per page, some words of praise, not much else.
- Denyse Graves Web Site. A nice job, with lots of pictures and background information. The links
section includes just about every opera house or company online.
- La Scala
- the famous Milan opera house now has
its own web site, and apparently you can order tickets. No longer do you have to
know the Pope. One of these days I will write about my 1990 experience of trying
to get into a performance there.
- Buying
Tickets at La Scala - apparently it can be done. Read the
instructions here.
- La Scala Autographs - not affiliated with the opera house (that I know of), but a New York
area company specializing in autographs of opera stars and other memorabilia. If
you really want to own a Caruso caricature and have the bucks, this is the place
to find it.
- Liric Arena of
Verona - the famous Roman amphitheatre in Verona now has
its own web page, designed by IBM. Maybe that's why it's so bad. Too many frames
and moving text. But apparently you can order tickets through the site.
- Theatro Dell Opera - the opera house of Rome,
in Italian only.
- Theatro Comunale
di Bologna - although there is an English version of this
site, most of the good stuff is in the Italian section.
- The Metropolitan Opera - the Met in New York, includes schedules, ticket information, broadcast
news, and Met history.
- The Washington Opera - I used to have season tickets to the Washington Opera, but a string of
uninspiring performaces, rising ticket prices, and perpetually lousy parking at the
Kennedy Center convinced me to give them up. Now that Placido Domingo is in charge,
maybe it will get better. But the opera company just bought an old building and need
to raise $100M for renovations, so don't expect any bargains.
- Washington Performing Arts Society - not really an opera site at all, but WPAS has brought Cecilia to Washington
D.C. twice, so I guess they deserve a mention.
